On the 27th of April, 1944 an RAF aircraft went down in flames outside of the village of Bure. The residents collected and buried the bodies in the back of their village churchyard. These graves are now maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Bure is a very rural community. The church appears to date from the 19th century, and while the exterior shows some disrepair, the inside is quite beautiful. In addition to these 5 Commonwealth graves, the church serves as a memorial for soldiers of the 6th British Airborne Division (specifically the 13th Parachute Battalion) who were killed during the Ardennes campaign (Battle of the Bulge).
