Notes

From Letters from the Front, Imperial Bank of Canada

Born 15th February, 1896, at Valleyfield, Quebec, Canada. Father, W. M. Hill, Life Insur­ance Agent. Educated at Winchester Public School, and Jarvis Collegiate Institute. Entered the service of the Bank, 20th Sep­tember, 1915. Enlisted, 1st April, 1916, from Gerrard & Pape, Toronto, branch, in 201st Canadian Battalion, with the rank of Private. Transferred to 198th Canadian Battalion, September, 1916; 19th Canadian Battalion, February, 1918. Principal actions: Arras, March-June, 1918; Amiens, Arras, August, 1918; Mons, November, 1918. To Germany with Army of Occupation. Gassed, at Arras, 28th August, 1918. Demobilized, 26th May, 1919.

 

Additional Service Notes

Was initially considered unfit for service because his chest measurement was below standard, but sent to England. Examined in Otterpool, England on 16 April 1917 and considered fit for service, chest expansion of at least 2.5 inches.
