Service Biography

George Wallace Meikle was born at Montreal, Quebec, on 5 July 1896 and worked as a butcher. He first enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force in February 1916 with the 148th Overseas Battalion, but was medically discharged after six days. He enlisted again in 1918 as Gunner 2522697, serving in Canada with the 79th Battery and the 4th Battalion, Canadian Garrison Regiment, with an intervening posting to the 1st Depot Battalion, 1st Quebec Regiment. He was discharged at Montreal on demobilization on 23 November 1918.

George Wallace Meikle served twice in the Canadian Expeditionary Force. He first enlisted at Montreal on 9 February 1916 as Private 841444 in the 148th Overseas Battalion and was medically discharged at Montreal on 15 February 1916 under K.R. & O. 322(2)(c), having been found medically unfit within three months of enlistment. He enlisted again in 1918, serving as Gunner 2522697 with the 79th Battery, the 4th Battalion, Canadian Garrison Regiment, and for a period with the 1st Depot Battalion, 1st Quebec Regiment. His final service record reckons from 24 April 1918. His service remained in Canada. He was discharged at Montreal on 23 November 1918 on demobilization.
