Service Biography

William Moylan was born at Liverpool, England, on 1 May 1893 and was living at Howick, Quebec, when called up under the Military Service Act. He joined the 1st Depot Battalion, 1st Quebec Regiment at Montreal on 11 March 1918 as Private 3082517. After arriving in England in April 1918, he passed through reserve and reinforcement units and joined the 24th Battalion in France in the autumn of 1918. He remained with the battalion through the end of the war, returned to Canada during demobilization, and was discharged at Montreal on 19 May 1919.

Notes

At medical examination he was approximately 5 ft 5 in tall and 120 lb, with grey eyes and dark-brown hair. The leaving-service medical examination records no disability requiring treatment and describes his physical condition as good; a handwritten note appears to refer to 'my old ...', requiring a closer second-pass reading.

Drafted under the Military Service Act, William Moylan joined the 1st Depot Battalion, 1st Quebec Regiment at Montreal on 11 March 1918 as Private 3082517. He disembarked at Liverpool on 28 April 1918 and was posted through the 23rd Reserve Battalion. In late October 1918 he proceeded through the Canadian Corps Reinforcement Camp to France and joined the 24th Battalion. He remained with the 24th Battalion through the final operations and post-armistice period. In January 1919 he was granted leave in the United Kingdom. He returned to England in April 1919 for demobilization, sailed for Canada, and was discharged at Montreal on 19 May 1919.
