Service Biography

Lawrence Edward McCaffrey was born in Ormstown, Quebec, on 19 June 1897. A student with three years of medical study, he was drafted under the Military Service Act and joined the 1st Depot Battalion, 1st Quebec Regiment at Montreal on 4 May 1918 as Private 3085069. His army service remained in Canada. On 27 May 1918 he was discharged at Montreal for the purpose of re-enlisting in the Canadian Naval Service.

Notes

At call-up McCaffrey was a student who reported three years of medical study. He was 6 ft tall, weighed 168 lb, and had a 34 in chest expanding to 39 in. He was described as having a fresh complexion, blue eyes and light brown hair, with good physical development. His religion was Roman Catholic. He reported previous service in the C.O.T.C. and was not a member of the Active Militia at the time of call-up. A leaving-service examination on 27 May 1918 recorded him in good physical condition with no impairment.
