Service Biography

Robert Lindsay McGerrigle was born at Ormstown, Quebec, on 23 May 1896. A farmer and a member of the Church of England, he was drafted under the Military Service Act and joined at Montreal on 17 July 1918 as Private 3087677 with the 1st Depot Battalion, 1st Quebec Regiment. After a period of farm leave in September 1918, he was transferred to the Canadian Engineers at St. Johns, Quebec, on 11 October. He later served as a Sapper with the Engineer Training Depot. His wartime service was in Canada, and he was discharged on demobilization on 6 January 1919.

Notes

At his 17 July 1918 medical examination McGerrigle was 5 ft 8.5 in tall, weighed 133 lb, had a 31-34 in chest with 3 in expansion, fresh complexion, blue eyes and light brown hair. Vision was recorded as 20/20 in each eye and hearing as normal. The recruit form recorded medical Category A. A Medical Board at St. Johns, Quebec, on 24 July 1918 recorded 'under developed' and a B2 result; the additional handwritten qualifier following B2 is not sufficiently clear to expand safely.

Drafted under the Military Service Act, Robert Lindsay McGerrigle joined the 1st Depot Battalion, 1st Quebec Regiment at Montreal on 17 July 1918 as Private 3087677. A Medical Board at St. Johns, Quebec, on 24 July recorded under-development and a B2 result, with an additional handwritten qualifier that is not fully legible. He was granted farm leave from 9 September 1918 and reported back on 24 September. On 11 October 1918 he was transferred to the Canadian Engineers at St. Johns under D.O. 204. He later served as a Sapper with the Engineer Training Depot and was discharged on demobilization on 6 January 1919.
