Raoul Leduc was born on 31 May 1897 at Saint-Louis-de-Gonzague, Quebec, the son of Louis Leduc. A farmer and Roman Catholic, he was drafted under the Military Service Act and joined at Montreal on 9 July 1918. He served as a private with the 1st Depot Battalion, 1st Quebec Regiment in Canada and was demobilized at Montreal on 20 January 1919.
