Service Biography

Private Elzear Lalonde was born on 30 May 1886 at St-Stanislas-de-Kostka in Beauharnois County, Quebec. An expert agricultural mechanic, he was drafted under the Military Service Act and joined the Canadian Expeditionary Force at Montreal on 21 June 1918. He served in Canada with the 2nd Depot Battalion, 2nd Quebec Regiment, the Overseas Company of the Canadian Officers Training Corps at Laval University, and the 3rd French Canadian Tank Battalion of the Canadian Machine Gun Corps. Lalonde was discharged at Montreal on 26 November 1918 during general demobilization after 179 days of service. He had married Aurore Brault on 22 November 1917, and she later appeared in his service records as his wife and pay assignee.
