A single farmer, he was drafted under the Military Service Act and attested at Montreal on 11 November 1917 as Private 3172303. He reported for active service on 20 August 1918 and served in Canada with the 2nd Depot Battalion, 2nd Quebec Regiment. He was discharged at Montreal on 6 February 1919 on demobilization under the farmer's-leave procedure.
