Service Biography

Clifford Arthur Roy was born at Athelstan, Quebec, on 7 March 1921. He completed Grade IX at Athelstan School in 1936 and worked as a jointer at International Cooperage Mills in Athelstan before enlisting at St. Johns, Quebec, on 11 September 1939. Roy served with the Royal Canadian Regiment and spent about five years overseas, serving in the United Kingdom, Sicily, Italy and Northwest Europe as an infantryman and, for about a year, as an anti-tank gunner. He returned to Canada in 1945 and was discharged on demobilization on 12 July 1945. He later lived in Huntingdon with his wife Jessie Dent. Roy died at Sainte-Anne's Hospital on 25 August 1987 and was buried in the Field of Honour at Huntingdon Protestant Cemetery.
