Notes
The file records nephritis during June 1919 while McCullough was serving in England. The clinical record at No. 14 Canadian General Hospital dates the admission to 4 June 1919; casualty/hospital lists record 5 June, so the latter is retained as a secondary administrative date rather than a second admission. Laboratory testing continued during June. The Medical Board on 20 June recorded slight albuminuria, classified him Category BII, and recommended return to Canada rather than a medical discharge.
Additional Service Notes
Drafted under the Military Service Act, James Latham McCullough joined the 1st Depot Battalion, Manitoba Regiment, at Winnipeg on 7 March 1918. He embarked for England on 4 August 1918 and disembarked on 15 August. He was taken on strength of the 11th Reserve Battalion at Seaford on 6 September 1918 and transferred to the 18th Reserve Battalion on 3 March 1919. In June 1919 he was admitted to No. 14 Canadian General Hospital, Eastbourne, with nephritis. A Medical Board on 20 June classified him fit for Category BII and recommended return to Canada. He was subsequently processed through return/dispersal organizations, struck off strength for Canada on 4 July, and discharged at Winnipeg on demobilization on 13 July 1919.
Additional Next of Kin Notes
At calling up, his father William Gardiner McCullough of Huntingdon, Quebec, was named as next of kin. The Medical History of an Invalid dated 20 June 1919 later names Mrs. W. G. McCullough as his mother and next of kin; her address is recorded only as Canada.
