Service Biography

John Edward Massan was born in Huntingdon, Quebec, on 16 September 1898. A labourer living in Montreal, he enlisted there on 16 April 1918 as a Gunner with the 79th Depot Battery, Canadian Field Artillery. He proceeded to England in July 1918. During his overseas service he was hospitalized for acute appendicitis and underwent surgery at Witley, England. He returned to Canada in April 1919 and was discharged on demobilization at Montreal on 11 April 1919.
