Notes

At calling up he was recorded as 5 ft 9 in tall, with a fully expanded chest of 37 in and 3 in expansion, brown complexion, brown eyes and brown hair. The Medical History Sheet dated 30 September 1918 records weight 137 lb, chest 34–37 in and good physical development. A handwritten medical annotation on that sheet is only partly legible after high-resolution review: 'acne' appears readable, followed by additional wording apparently concerning a foot or toe, but the remainder cannot be transcribed reliably and is not expanded.
