Michel Varin was born at Huntingdon, Quebec, on 21 March 1890. A single Roman Catholic labourer, he entered service under the Military Service Act at Montreal on 5 January 1918 and served in Canada as a Private with the 2nd Depot Battalion, 2nd Quebec Regiment. He was absent without leave from 22 September 1918, was declared a deserter by a Court of Inquiry, and was struck off strength on 13 October 1918.

Michel Varin was born at Huntingdon, Quebec, on 21 March 1890. He was single, Roman Catholic and a labourer. His father, Michel Varin of Huntingdon, Quebec, was next of kin. The original Medical History Sheet records height 5 ft 6½ in, weight 127 lb, chest 34–36 in with 2 in expansion, good physical development, grey eyes and brown hair. He was assessed in medical category C3.

Michel Varin was drafted under the Military Service Act and entered service at Montreal on 5 January 1918 as Private 3155608 with the 2nd Depot Battalion, 2nd Quebec Regiment, Canadian Expeditionary Force. He served only in Canada. He was absent without leave from 22 September 1918 and was declared a deserter by a Court of Inquiry. The Casualty Form records him struck off strength as a deserter effective 13 October 1918; its entry was later amended by District Order in 1923. A December 1918 Last Pay Certificate records 12 October 1918, cause of discharge 'Deserter,' authority 'Court of inquiry.' He was charged $53.53 for deficiency in kit.
