FOCH'S PETS
What makes you look so pale and wan?
(Said Hindenburg to Ludendorff.)
The news, I know, is very bad,
The loss enough to make one mad.
But we can make a fine report :
Their last advance is somewhat short,
And our retreat accords to plan.
Gott in Himmel ! Verdamnt the plans !
(Said Ludendorff to Hindenburg.)
Of mice and men, they've gone astray.
I thought them safely stowed away,
Out of sight for many a day.
They've spoilt my whole communique—
I mean those damned Canadians.
When they are in, our luck is out
(Said Hindenburg to Ludendorff.)
And I had hoped that you were right--
That they were safely out of sight.
Call up reserves on all the line,
Or we shall be across the Rhine
Before we know what we're about.
