War's Grim Toll From Family of J.G. Douse, Lefroy, Ontario
Three sons killed in action within six weeks, one previously wounded, and a
fifth invalided home--that is the war's grim toll from the family of Mr.
J.G. Douse of Lefroy, Ont. The first to be killed was Pte. John Harrison
Douse, who made the supreme sacrifice on August 8 while serving with the
3rd Battalion. Lance-Corp. Gorden Douse and Pte. Henry Christopher Douse,
both of the 42nd Battalion, Royal Highlanders of Canada, were killed in
action on the same day--September 25.

Pte. John Douse was a well-known member of Central Y.M.C.A. and took a
prominent part in the different activities. He was one of the outstanding
members of the Leaders' Corps, and for a term was President of the
dormitory men, being a resident man for several years. He went overseas as
a Sergeant in 1917 with the 255th Queen's Own Battalion. His brother,
Gordon, was also well known at Central, having lived there for a few months
prior to his departure overseas while employed in the offices of the Bank
of Toronto.
