A petition for the reprieve of George Harman , a private in the Canadian Forces, who was sentenced to death at the Central Criminal Court on March 5 for the murder of Florence Elizabeth Earl on Hackney Downs, is being signed by the residents of London-fields, Hackney. It is urged in the petition that the murder was committed under great provocation, and that the jury recommended Harman to mercy. It is also stated that before he went to Canada Harman saved the life of a woman at Putney, and that he sacrificed a good position in Canada when he volunteered for military services.
