Lougheed, Alta. Man Gets Enthusiastic Reception in Northern City
Edmonton, Jan. 26.--Edmonton gave a royal welcome on Sunday afternoon to
Pte. Cecil J. Kinross, V.C., of Lougheed, Alta.
The reception was held at the Pantages theatre, and so many flocked from
all parts to do honor to the Victoria Cross hero that no less than 2,000
were unable to gain admittance.
The demonstrations in the theatre were of the most enthusiastic nature and
Pte. Kinross got round after round of cheers when he came forward to
accept the city's token of appreciation of his bravery, a purse of gold.
This was handed over after a eulogistic speech by Mayor Clark.
Among other speakers were Lieut.-Gov. Brett, Hon. Charles Stewart, and
John Blue.
