Presentation to Soldiers
On Tuesday evening, at the request of the Mayor, citizens to a large number, gathered in the Assembly Rooms of the Public Library, when the eight Liskeard boys who are leaving next Monday to join the soldiers at Niagara, were presented with wrist watches. The chair was occupied by Mayor Byam, while on the platform with him were Lieuts.
Tom Magladery and
Stevenson, who have been connected with the 97
th Regiment at Haileybury. Mayor Byam's opening remarks were of a most appropriate character, in which he expressed the pleasure it gave him to represent the town on this occasion, when citizens of Canada were vieing with one another in assisting the Empire in her hour of trial. His Worship then called upon Privates

McLean and
Bilow to stand up, when wrist watches were attached to their wrists by Councillors Magladery, Evans, Lever, Neelands and Walton, and Messrs. McKelvie, Taylor and Stephenson. After the presentation
Lieut. Tom Magladery was called on, when our genial representative spoke most highly of the Liskeard representatives of the 97
th. The boys would make good without doubt, and in conclusion he explessed the thanks of Temiskaming Company for the kindnesses which had been tendered the soldiers by the Town of New Liskeard. Addaesses were also delivered by Rev. J.R. Uruhart, Rev. H. Lee, Lieut. Stevenson, Rev. A.H. Barker, Father Arsenault, Ex-Mayors McKelvie and Stevenson, and Rev. H.A. Simms. Following the addresses the meeting was brought to a close by all joining in singing the National Anthem.
