Dated:
Death of Lieut. A. N. Morgan
Last Thursday morning the sad news was received in New Liskeard of the death of our townsman,
Lieut. Morgan, while in action on the field of battle on May 24
th.
After the news had been received in New Liskeard, flags were placed at half-mast, and there was a general feeling of profound sorrow through out the Town, - sorrow for Mrs. Morgan and her three children, and sorrow because the Town had lost an honored citizen who always took an active part in local matters, and one who was always pleasant and genial.
In our issue of the 17
th December, 1908, we had the following short biographical sketch of the late Mr. Morgan, and we gave his portrait in our issue three weeks ago:
“Mr. A. N. Morgan, barrister, was born in Ottawa in 1876. He received his education in the City Collegiate establishments and entered the study of law, taking the usual Osgoode Hall course. He practiced for some time in Fergus, coming to New Liskeard in 1902. The move was a wise one. In the fall of 1902 he formed a partnership with Mr. McEwen which continued until last fall, when he opened an office on his own account. Mr. Morgan is also an enthusiastic military man, and holds the position of Lieut. in the 97
th regiment. Formerly he was a member of the Governor General's Foot Guards, and then in the Queen's Own. He was justly proud of the showing made by the local company at the big drill camp last season, when the Liskeard company was awarded second prize.”
The late Lieut. Morgan was thirty-eight years of age, a member of the A. F. and A. M. Lodge, a Liberal in politics and a member of the Anglican Church.
Seven years ago Mr. Morgan was married to Miss Beatrice Pearce, and leaves his widow and three small children, two sons and one daughter. There are also left of his family, two brothers, and one sister, of Brockville, his late father Henry F. Morgan, L. L. D., having passed away last fall. Many friends and the town as a whole, mourn the loss of Lieut. Morgan, but do honor to one who, at the call, responded to the fullest.
