Billy Thomas Heard From

Mr. C.A. Wismer is in receipt of a letter from Lance Corporal W. Thomas, which announces the fact that he is well and confident that he will once again find his way back to New Liskeard. He commences his letter with the news that “Fat” (Angus McLean) was in the hospital, but apparently Billy was interrupted in his letter writing, as he concludes with the pleasant news that Angus was again with him. Mr. Thomas concludes with the following:
“It was kind of hard on the nerves at first hearing bullets whizzing over your head, some coming pretty close, also shells exploding uncomfortably near, but I have got used to it. I had the pleasure of guiding part of the 28^th Battalion of the 2^nd Division into the trenches. I had a good laugh to myself. They sure would duck when a bullet whistled past. We are in good trenches now, about eighty yards from Fritz. The closest I have been was about thirty yards. The boys sure did well at Midland. Remember me to the boys.” - Billy.
