News From The Boys

Mrs. Thomas is in receipts of letters from Orderly Corporal W.E. Thomas, from France, dated Oct. 10 and Oct. 17. He had been in the trenches and out again, and expecting to go in again very soon. He speaks of the shell fire experienced, but none in his part of Company were hurt. Things were rather quiet, but for the daily artillery work, but that one had to be on the watch all the time for the German snipers. He was in receipt of letters, papers and a box from home containing a cake which reached there in good condition but did not long survive. The Canadian mails are watched for eagerly by all. He says the Canadian papers give much more war news than the English papers they see. He mentions a German shell which he thought would make a fine watch charm, fifteen inches long and six inches in diameter. More huts were being built, and he speaks well of the accommodation provided, under the circumstances. He writes enthusiastically as usual, but has modified his opinion as to being home for Christmas dinner this Christmas.
