Extract from "Liskeard News"

Lieut. Tom Magladery arrived in town on Tuesday, bringing Mrs. Magladery and the children back to their home on Mary St. While Lieut. Magladery is not allowed to give speech to all he knows about militia matters, still it is generally believed that the return of the family to town is but the forerunner of an early departure of the 37th Battalion across the water. It is quite probable that the 37th, the 35th and 58th will tie up together. The majority of the northern boys are in the 37th and 58th. Capt. Jack McKay is connected with the 58th, as well as Sargeant Parker and Privates Scott, Rutherford and Batty, while our town lads are in the 37th. A safe journey and a speedy return is the fervent wish of our people. And while these gallant boys are on their way, what about the others?
