Letters From the Front

Elgin Barracks, St. Thomas

March 17, 1917

Dear People:-

Instead of sleeping this afternoon I think I will write a couple of letters. This is an easy day for us as it was too muddy this morning for a route march so all we had to do was straighten our kits for a barracks inspection.

Last Wednesday a draft of 275 men from the battalion were picked out to go to Sarnia for guard duty. Three signallers were taken and young McKinstry was one of them. We were all sorry to see Mac go as he was the life of the section and he didn't have any say about it. Quite a few Mount Forest fellows went among them Melvin Pennock , Treadwell , Fricker and several others. They will have an easy time down there but the place is not nearly as nice as St. Thomas and the quarters are not as good either. They will probably stay there until the battalion goes overseas.

You will get a check for fifteen dollars sometime this month which you can put in the bank for me.

One day last week we went to the picture show in the afternoon to see one of “Roberson's Travelogues” Which you will remember as having been advertised so much in the Toronto Star. The subject was “France and the Battlefields of Verdun”. We were all disappointed in it however as it wasn't nearly as good as we thought it would be.

Euart has been feeling fine since he got back and I think is all over his trouble.
