FREE TRANSMISSION

Sad Messages Regarding Casualties to Canadian Soldiers at the Front to be Sent Free

Ottawa. -- The Canadian Pacific Company has notified the militia department that the company has arranged to transmit free over its telegraph and cable lines, all messages to and from the militia department from the war office or the Canadian High Commissioner in connection with casualties among the Canadian expeditionary forces.

Notices of such casualties to next of kin in Canada will also be handled free.  Relatives of wounded Canadians will be allowed free transmission for three messages, asking for information through the militia department as to the condition of the wounded men.  The company has also established a week end service between relatives and soldiers, sailors and nurses of the expeditionary force in Great Britain at five cents per word.
